One of the messges contained in the acceptance speech of the interim executives setup in February, 2020, was the resolve and determination of the leadership to exploit every developmental opportunities and possible avenues that will harness the potentialities of Okon-Aku and put her back on the path of progress.

This indeed is a prove that light attracts light.
Premised on this same trajectory of accountability and transparency, the Executives have decided that it is not necessary to wait for a whole year to give account of their stewardship. “Ohafia si; Nkita Luzia Ogwu, Ifu agaghi Nna nwoyani”.
In his detailed submission to the entire community, contained in their reports, Dr Nmecha Umeh Kalu stated:
“ODU Culverts and Drainage Projects: Financial Updates and Matters Arising.
“Dear Sons and Daughters of Okon-Aku Autonomous Community Ohafia, I bring special greetings to you!
“It is with a sense of duty, commitment, service, sacrifice and accountability that I write to inform you about the status of the ODU Culverts and Drainage Projects in our community.
“About five (5) weeks ago, we (ODU) embarked on the construction of Culverts and Drainages at the Oguma and Nkwo-market axis; this was to check the very deep gully erosion, and near-collapse state of the two-locked up shops/building, donated to Okon-Aku by the Onarubi Age Grade.
“Today, those two buildings have been rescued; the ravaging erosion within Ogiriga and its environs checked; then the road to Ori-uke from Ndi Ekea, Ndi Edike and the Nkwo-market axis, is completely fixed and made motorable. Aside the visible and strategic long ranged & ‘V’ shaped drainage system, three Culverts were constructed at the Nkwo-market, connecting the adjoining roads.
“Furthermore and within same period under review, the entire Oguma axis: from the existing culvert at Ndi Ekea to the Oguma daily market, is wearing a new look. The road has been extended, shanties removed and Drainages constructed by-Ndi Edike, Ndi Eche and Omaguzo roads respectively. Two long ranged Culverts were also constructed and the roundabout refurbished.
“My brothers and sisters, in view of the grave risk of losing the two Onarubi locked up shops at the Nkwo-market and the ravaging flood menace at the Oguma-roundabout axis, we decided to commence these projects.
“Today, I am grateful to God for His guidance and directions; to the good people of Okon-Aku Autonomous Community, for giving us the opportunity to serve; to the ODU executive for the understanding; to Chief Engr. Uche Idika Ikenga, for accepting to supervise the projects. To the numerous young and old men, who were daily committed to seeing the Projects completed and on time, I salute your communal spirits.
“Having finished this first phase, herein comes the second phase which is to grade, roll and sand fill these project areas. We were technically advised to allow the rainy season to be over, such that the Perloader can comfortably come to site and scub the sands for the tippers. We are planning sometimes in October to November.
“Also, we have planned to move the daily market from Oguma-roundabout and it’s axis to the Nkwo-market. But before this movement, we need to lighten up the Nkwo-market and it’s environs. The target is to go for high-tech Solar Panels to power and electrify the market.
This will help to restore the beauty, accessibility and dignity of our village-center.
“Your tremendous donations during the Pallative era was overwhelming and encouraging. Our people were inspired and motivated. Our known Communal spirits were awaken. We can indeed do more and make our community, the pride of her people.
“God bless you and bless Okon-Aku Autonomous Community”, the report concludes.
One of the very fabrics of progress of Ohafia people is deeply rooted in Community-Self-Help and this must be heightened even as the government is expected not to abandon the bold strides of Okon-Aku and other Ohafia Clans at large who are complimenting the developmental efforts of the State Government.
