PRESS STATEMENT – 16/8/2019
The decision of the Federal High court sitting in Lagos to grant bail to the arrested Son in law and Finance Director of Atiku’s Group of Companies, Mr Abdullahi Babalele has continued to generate reactions from Nigerians, especially those who believe that the arrest was an attempt to intimidate and frustrate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the PDP Presidential Candidate in the last General Election that is being challenged at the tribunal after INEC had declared Buhari returned from an exercise that had since been declared “broad day robbery”.
To this end, the Director General of Atikulated Agenda Worldwide and Director General of Global Initiative for Good Governance (GIGG), has in a statement issued from his USA base and signed by his Media/Publicity aide, Comr. Amos Kalu, extolled the court for finally granting bail to Mr. Babalele from the grip of EFCC after he was arrested in a Gestapo style with “Order from above”.
But he frowned at the condition of bailing him with a whooping N20Million, asking what offence he could’ve committed to warrant such condition for a bail of an accused person.
“I see this as extortion and further attempt to demoralize Atiku through the machinery of the state whereas the court is supposed to be the last hope of the oppressed and common man.
“N20Million for a single bail is outrageous and wicked, to say the least. But we are thankful that they were considerate enough to know that he deserve his freedom, but they should also remember if the fight for corruption continues to sail in this direction, it will become a systemic style of robbing one man (presumed enemy) to enrich another (the ones with integrity to steal), and it does not spell good for the independence and integrity of our esteemed Judiciary” he said.
Continuing, Dr. Kalu insisted that the judiciary should sit up and be independent of being controlled by the executive because that is the only way Nigeria will not slide into total anarchy. He also said that the court should stop this extortion being practiced against opposition as well as the unending intimidation and blackmail of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar through trumped up charges and illegal arrests,
‘We are still waiting for the arraignment of Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu whose undisclosed amount was brandished in a Bullion Van all in support of Buhari. Does it mean that some people are immune to the law while others are vulnerable?
“This intimidation should stop. We are still waiting for the court on the tribunal outcome because to me, this is their last opportunity to redeem their already battered image in the eyes of the public and the international community.
“Atiku is imminently coming” He said.
