Robert kyagulanyi Ssentamu whose stage name is Bobi Wine is a Ugandan singer, actor and politician. A member of the Ugandan parliament and the presidential candidate of the National Unity Platform Party.
Before his emergence as a lawmaker, Bobi wine was a vocal voice against the dictatorial leadership of President Museveni, who has been in power since Bobi Wine was just four years old.
In his quest to become President of Uganda against incumbent Museveni, who is seeking a sixth term in office, Bobi Wine formed his own National Unity Platform Party and became its presidential flag-bearer.
Himself, family, friends and associates have been subjected to servere harassments by the authorities in Uganda, but it did not deter them.
His popularity grew among Ugandan people, especially the youths who saw him as their own.
Early results shows Bobi Wine in front of the race. No matter what the outcome is, one thing is certain, he has awoken the consciousness of African youths. His focus, determination and courage are traits other Youths should emulate. Despite the herculean hurdles, Bobi Wine has changed the narrative about politics in Africa, its not for the old and wealthy alone, youths have the most priced asset ‘voice’.
Nigerian youths in particular should learn from this, even as 2023 elections draw near.
