The mystery of the unknown gunmen had remained a cause for worry as more lives has continued to be lost while chaos creeps into the once upon a time peaceful Southern region of Nigeria.
For whatever reasons, the Nigerian authorities had continued to blame the attacks on IPOB/ESN even as the group always deny such accusations, maintaining that their only mission is to expel killer herdsmen who has been terrorising the region with the aide of the government.
Recent development seems to be proving this claims to be right following revelation by Akwa Ibom State governor against the Nigerian Police.
At last, after the meeting of Southern Governors, it seems the era of conspiracy of silence is over. According to the Governor:
“We arrested persons with fake army uniforms carrying 18 AK-47 rifles and handed them over to the police.
However, the police hierarchy gave express order that those persons should be released and their guns handed back to them.
We want to let the world know that if there is a break down of law and order tomorrow, the police should be held responsible.
All attempts to speak with the top hierarchy of the police in the zone and at Abuja were rebuffed”-
- Gov. Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State.
