After a long period of challenges faced by commuters of the Abam-Ohafia route due to deteriorated state of the Bailey Bridge, hope has returned after the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole has, after inspection of repair job with FERMA officials, re-opened the Bridge to traffic while the work to construct a modern bridge is at its peak.
In a Press Release seen by OHAFIA-TV News on his Facebook page with the title: MMURI BRIDGE RE-OPENS TO TRAFFIC the workaholic representative stated;
“This afternoon after joint site visit with FERMA field officers, Council Ohafia Monarchs and Youth leaders, Road Transport workers. Iam pleased to inform us that the FERMA bridge unit team has certified the overhauled Nmuri Bailey Bridge along Umuahia Bende Ozu ABAM Ohafia Road Route F107 fit for vehicular traffic again and is now open to the public for use.
“It will be recalled that the Bridge collapsed early last year due to age and pressure.
“But following my interventions through the relevant government agents, FERMA and Federal Ministry of works and housing moved to site for repairs and deliver a new brand bridge respectively.
“”This led to temporary close down on March 2nd, 2021, to enable FERMA effect necessary repairs. The repairs have just been Completed, necessitating it’s reopening” the statement read.
“While this was a temporary measure to reinstate the dilapidated Bailey bridge Iam also happy to observe that Work is seriously ongoing on the new Concrete Bridge being constructed beside the old one.
“While we regret the obvious inconveniences Commuters might have experienced as a result of the temporary closure, I will like to reiterate my total commitment towards ensuring timely appropriation of funds to the Contractor to ensure it’s timely completion and also to continually attract the delivery of democracy dividends to our people.
