Buhari hosts ECOWAS leaders in crucial meeting over Mali, Guinea Conakry

ECOWAS leaders began deliberations on Sunday on crucial sub-regional and continental matters including reports on political crises in Mali and Guinea Conakry. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting, hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari, has President of Ghana and Chairman of ECOWAS Authority, Nana Akufo-Addo in attendance. Defiant junta rejects ECOWAS pressure to let Alpha Conde leave Guinea

Guinea’s military junta said on Friday it would not bow to regional pressure and allow President Alpha Conde, detained since his overthrow on Sept. 5, to leave the country. On Friday Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara and Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo paid a one-day visit to Conakry to ask coup leader Mamady Doumbouya, a special forces commander and former French Legionnaire, for Conde’s release.
